About the Organization
Sakhi for South Asian Women, a 501(c)(3) non-profit community-based organization, is an innovative anti-domestic violence agency begun in June 1989. Sakhi for South Asian Women exists to end violence against women. We unite survivors, communities, and institutions to eradicate domestic violence as we work together to create strong and healthy communities. Sakhi uses an integrated approach that combines support and empowerment through service delivery, community engagement, media advocacy, and policy initiatives. In 20 years, Sakhi has supported thousands of survivors of violence through non-residential services delivery, mobilized community change toward abuse, and enhanced institutions to better serve survivors and the South Asian community. Sakhi is recognized as a local, regional, and national leader in its field. Sakhi currently has six full-time staff members as well as a vibrant board and volunteer pool. Position Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for providing direction and leadership at Sakhi for South Asian Women, with primary oversight of all of Sakhi’s activities. The Executive Director at Sakhi takes leadership in upholding the mission, values, programs, public face, and sustainability of the organization, and is responsible for overall program, financial, personnel, operations, administrative, communications, and community relations management.
S/he has the primary role in the coordination of fund development and fiscal management for an annual budget around $850,000. The Executive Director has a key role in fostering Sakhi’s unique integrated methodology which focuses on transformation in three sectors – individuals through direct services, communities through community engagement and media advocacy, and institutions through policy advocacy.

The Executive Director reports to a 7-10 member Board of Directors and leads and supervises 6-8 staff and a volunteer pool of 70.

FUND DEVELOPMENT: Takes overall responsibility for Fund Development; cultivates relationships and opportunities actively with a broad spectrum of corporate, special events, foundation, government, and individual funders and enables donor stewardship; assesses fund development trends and promotes Sakhi’s visibility.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Leads comprehensive financial management and fiscal sustainability and accountability.

PERSONNEL: Takes leadership in creating a positive staff environment, facilitates opportunities for professional development for all staff, and holds the bottom line for hiring, evaluation, recognition, and personnel action.

PROGRAM: Ensures excellent program planning, development, documentation, and evaluation by and with staff.

INSTITUTIONAL ADVOCACY: Represents the agency in coalitions and collaborative projects with other organizations; advocates on behalf of Sakhi’s constituencies in public arenas and in collaboration with local, state, and national groups. Furthers Sakhi’s campaign on language access in the courts.

OUTREACH & MEDIA PRODUCTION: Serves as the primary public face for Sakhi in arenas ranging from grassroots to national convenings to journalist inquiries. Mentors staff and volunteers on community and media presentations. Leads development, branding, and graphic design of Sakhi media products including films, fact sheets, newsletters, website, and event materials.

BOARD: Provides leadership in upholding board governance and liability responsibilities and serves as liaison between Board and Staff.

ADMINISTRATION: Holds responsibility for development and implementation of all contracts and ensures compliance with legal obligations. Manages human resources components including documentation, payroll, and benefits administration. Ensures operations and technology capacity for organization.

Required Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience comprised of work in all or some of the following areas:
• Outstanding commitment to upholding violence against women mission, values, philosophy, and practice;
• Vision for organizational and program planning and development;
• Experience as an Executive Director or senior program director or administrator;
• Excellence in providing support and supervision to staff and volunteers;
• Demonstrated success in fund development (including grant writing and donor cultivation), and non-profit finance and budgeting;
• Leadership in public, institutional, and media advocacy;
• Experience working in diverse communities, including South Asian communities;
• Excellent communication, collaboration-building, and conflict-resolution skills;
• Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, prioritize, take initiative, and actively problem-solve; and,
• Ability to represent Sakhi positively among community members, partner agencies, collaborative organizations, donors, funders, and policy makers.
